We have the winners!
The V. Edition of the World Marathon and Half Marathon Championship of Members of Parliaments is finished.
This year 26 parlamentarians from 11 countries were participating in the marathon.
7 marathoners run the distance 42 195 m. Two first place on the podium took representatives form Estonia:
the winner Lauri Luik and on the second palce Ligi Jurgen. Third came Antoni Mężydło, the member of Polish Parliament.
In the national team category the gold medal came also to the marathoners form Etshonia.
Just behind them was the polish team.
In halfmarathon women’s category won Barbara Richstein form Germany.
In men’s category the winner came to be Janez Drobnic from Slovenia.
On the second place we have Vytautas Galvonas form Lithuania. Algirdas Sysas, also from the
lithuanian parlament, crossed the finishing line third. In the national team category
in halfmarathon the first place took the team from Slovenia.
The second place took the team form Lithuania and the third one team form Kenya.
Fifth Edition of the World Marathon and Half Marathon Championship of Members of Parliaments
is a very special event which enables people professionally engaged in politics
to test their strength in an international sporting competition. It is a challenge
for all those who want to pit themselves against the long marathon distance,
as well as an opportunity to meet, and share experience with MPs from all over the world.
Apart from its athletic aspect, participation in the Championship has also a symbolic dimension
- its common goal unites participants above political, cultural or national divisions.
